Bardon Environmental has established a dedicated asbestos analysis laboratory.
This modern, fully equipped facility is staffed by competent, experienced personnel holding BOHS P-401 training certificates.
Analysis of asbestos fibre content of a sample is a strict requirement of all Type 2 and Type 3 asbestos surveys. It is also a requirement of Regulation 5 of the CAR 2006 that an employer shall not carry out work in demolition, maintenance, or any other work which exposes or is liable to expose his employees to asbestos unless a suitable assessment has been carried out as to determine the following:
Bardon Environmental has established a dedicated asbestos analysis laboratory. We are full members of the AIMS quality control scheme administered by the HSE which is a statutory requirement of UKAS accreditation. All analysis will be carried out by competent experienced personnel holding BOHS P-401 training certificates.
All analysis will be carried out using Bardon Environmental’s in-house methods in strict accordance with the HSE document HSG 248 The Analyst Guide”. Analysis is carried out using polarised optical microscopy on small samples of materials. This technique is fast, inexpensive, and reliable and is usually sufficient to identify the range of asbestos fibre types that occur in building materials and other contaminated materials.
All asbestos fibres are identified by their refractive index which is a unique optical property dependent on the crystalline structure of the asbestos fibres. By using fully trained, competent, experienced laboratory staff this technique has a sensitivity of detection of the order of 1 ppm by mass.
